From the Desolation of the Republican Party, at Last a Shining Light!
Written by Dorrence Stovall

In this political season where, honestly, no party is 100% happy with their candidates for President, at last a shining star comes forth. Sure, he is not a candidate for President, but nevertheless an interesting candidate indeed. I'm speaking of Vijay Kumar of Nashville, Tennessee who is seeking the Republican nomination for the 5th district Congressional House seat now presently held by Rep. Jim Cooper (D). Vijay is an immigrant (legally) to the United States from his native India. Vijay is an American success story, having come to the U.S.A. with nothing, struggling over 20 years to complete the immigration process to become an American Citizen. Along the way, he met his wife Robin (from Kentucky) and they have a son, and two adopted children.

Vijay calls himself a Reagan Republican, not because that is trendy, or cliche'. No, Vijay calls himself a Reagan Republican because it was the lessons of conservatism that he learned along his long path to that side. Born into a liberal family, having worked over the years for many liberal Democratic candidates, he began to wonder why their philosophy's never truly "worked". Why is it that the Democrat Party touts itself as being for the little man, for the working man, yet the people are not benefitting from their programs. Welfare has become a trap for millions. Gang violence is on the rise. Inner city officers find themselves strapped and unable to fight the crime they are sworn to fight. In politics, the democrats seem lost in the benign causes that are intangible and unable to be proven, that of environmentalism and globalism. Realizing these things, and having been a student of history, Vijay slowly changed his views to become a conservative Republican.

Vijay states that he changed his views formally on September 11, 2001 after the World Trade Center attacks. It was the culmination of the incompetence of Democratic leadership coming to fruition. Following this he knew that the great passion of his life, that of exposing Islamic fundamentalism for what it truly is, would become his great motivation. America must realize that Islam is not a "Religion of Peace" as President Bush has been diluded into believing, but that Islam represents the greatest threat to the world and the freedoms enjoyed by Americans. Islamic Jihadists threaten the stability of the world and until the world addresses them and their beliefs honestly, the threat will be continuing.

Refreshing talk in this political season where we are not supposed to even say the middle name of Barack Hussein Obama. Refreshing talk in a political season where apology seems to be the norm, while honest talk is cast aside. America could do well to learn the lessons being taught by this political new comer to the Republican Party. Another refreshing note, this newcomer is not courting the party itself, but instead truly creating a grass roots demand for what he is talking about. Creating a "New Face" for Republicanism in a core conservative state like Tennessee is the sort of thing that can make a national name quickly! While the Tennessee Republican party has early on endorsed the other candidate, Vijay Kumar is quickly leaving that candidate to the wayside, passing him in fundraising within the first month of filing his campaign papers.

Vijay Kumar is a candidate to watch. A different sort of candidate, and one spreading a different message of traditional Conservative values.
